COMPANY HISTORY

Rent-A-Wreck was established in 1976 in Prince George, BC and the first franchise was opened in 1978. Our colourful history has brought us to the number one position in used car rental and sales in Canada. For franchise information please click the yellow tab marked “franchise opportunity”.

Rent-A-Wreck is the registered trademark held by Practicar Systems Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Franchise Services of North America, Inc. (formerly known as Rent-A-Wreck Capital, Inc.) Rent-A-Wreck is currently traded on the TSX Venture Exchange under FSN. We are not directly affiliated with any Rent-A-Wreck system outside of Canada at this time. CUSTOMER RENTING POLICY (Posted at each location)

CUSTOMER’S RESPONSIBILITY

The primary renter (Customer) is responsible for the vehicle and financially responsible for all charges.

ADDITIONAL DRIVERS

In keeping with Rent-A-Wreck’s policy of providing you with value for your renting dollar, we do not charge for additional drivers noted on your rental agreement.

GASOLINE

All our vehicles are rented with a full tank of gas. To extend this courtesy to future customers we ask that you please return the vehicle with a full tank of gas. Vehicles not returned with a full tank of gas will be subject to a surcharge, plus the cost of refuelling.

FLUID LEVELS

Please have all fluid levels checked at every gasoline refill. The Rent-A-Wreck licensee will reimburse customers for all fluids (except gas) that the vehicle requires (with proper receipts).

BREAKDOWNS

Please note that any minor problem $20.00 or less (eg. Fan belt, radiator hose, etc.) should be repaired and a receipt kept. Any problem of an unknown or serious nature must be reported immediately to either the nearest Rent-A-Wreck location or to our office. Please ask about Personal Accident Plus protection which includes coverage for roadside assistance and more.

Negligent or careless use of our vehicles (including gravel road usage) resulting in damages, is the responsibility of the customer. Please return vehicles in a clean condition. Excessively dirty vehicles are subject to a cleaning surcharge.

ACCIDENTS AND INSURANCE

Please report all accidents to Rent-A-Wreck within 24 hours or the collision damage waiver becomes null and void and all damages will be the responsibility of the customer. Please note that any driver not listed on the contract is uninsured and all physical damages caused by this driver will be the responsibility of the customer. Any driver convicted of driving under the influence voids all insurance coverage and all damages will be the responsibility of the customer. There is no comprehensive glass coverage included. Ask about our Tire and Glass Waiver.

TICKETS

It is the responsibility of the customer to pay for all parking and speeding tickets received during rental. Please advise us of all parking, radar and speeding tickets received upon return of the rented vehicle. There is a surcharge for each unpaid parking, multanova (radar or photo radar) and speeding ticket.

PAYMENT

We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Cash payments require prior credit approval.

NOTE: Each Rent-A-Wreck location is operated by an individual licensee.

PRIVACY POLICY

Rent-A-Wreck is committed to respecting the privacy of our clients and franchisees. In order to communicate our commitment, we have prepared this Privacy Statement to advise you of our privacy practices and how to contact us with any questions you may have about our handling of your personal information.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

When you contact one of our rental offices to rent a vehicle, we must collect certain personal information from you. We only collect information that is essential for us to provide our services to you. The information we typically collect from our customers includes:

  • Name
  • Home and/or Business Address
  • Contact Phone Number(s)
  • Date of Birth
  • Method of Payment (e.g. Credit Card – Account Number and Expiration Date)
  • Driver’s License Number and Province/Country of Issuance

NB: Only a name; email address; pick-up/drop-off location & times are required to request the confirmation of a reservation on our web site.

In the instance of a cash only transaction, we require additional information such as:

  • Home Owner Information (e.g. rent or own)
  • Personal Vehicle Information (e.g. license number and description)
  • Banking Contact Information
  • Employment Contact Information
  • Character References

If you are applying for a Rent-A-Wreck franchise, you will be required to provide us with additional information such as:

  • your spouse’s name and occupation
  • number and age of dependents
  • current employment with position held and remuneration amount
  • social insurance number
  • references
  • education history
  • financial information.
PURPOSES OF COLLECTION

The personal information we collect from you will only be used for reasonable purposes and, subject to limited statutory exceptions, you will be notified of those purposes before the information is collected. Typically, the purposes for which we collect personal information from our customers include:

  • Confirming an individual’s identity
  • Contacting the individuals who have provided their personal information
  • Providing the services that have been requested
  • Administering the customer’s rental or purchase
  • Researching, developing, managing, protecting and improving our services
  • Conducting customer satisfaction surveys
  • Maintaining and developing our service oriented software and other business systems

Personal Information is normally collected from franchise applicants for the following purposes:

  • Credit verification
  • Determining if the applicant is suitable for a franchise operation
DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

In order to provide our services to our customers, and to process franchise applications, it is sometimes necessary for us to disclose your personal information to third parties. We will only disclose your personal information to others when it is reasonable to do so and we will only disclose as much information to the third party as is necessary to satisfy the purpose of the disclosure.

During the course of our business activities, we may disclose personal information to the following organizations:

  • To credit card issuers
  • To credit reporting and fraud checking agencies
  • To debt collection agencies
  • To government or private organizations responsible for the processing or handling of traffic or parking related violations
  • To driver licensing authorities, directly or through intermediary organizations when we need to verify compliance with Rent-A-Wreck’s safe driver criteria for qualified drivers and/or to verify license information
  • To government regulatory and law enforcement agencies where the disclosure is required or authorized by law
  • To insurance companies for claims processing and miscellaneous inquiries

If we do disclose your personal information to a third party, we will take steps to ensure that the party handles your personal information in the same manner, and to the same standards.

ACCESSING AND CORRECTION YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

Subject to certain legislated exemptions, you are entitled to access:

  • Your personal information contained in a record that is in our custody or under our control
  • The purposes for which your personal information has been and is being used by us
  • The names of the persons to whom and the circumstances in which your personal information has been and is being disclosed

You are also entitled to request that we correct any errors or omissions in your personal information. In order to request access to, or a correction of, your personal information, you must send a written request to the address set out at the bottom of this statement. Upon receipt of your written request, we will make every reasonable effort to assist you and to respond to your request as accurately and completely as possible. Depending on the nature of your request, we may charge you a fee for processing your request.

ACCURACY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

As part of our privacy commitment to you, we will undertake to make every reasonable effort to ensure that all of your personal information that we have collected, used or disclosed, is accurate and complete. In order to maintain the accuracy of your personal information for as long as it is used for the purposes set out above, your prompt notification of any changes to your personal information will assist us.

PROTECTION OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

We have made reasonable security arrangements to protect your personal information from such risks as: unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or destruction.

RETENTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We have put in place a retention schedule based on our legal and accounting practices that limits the length of time we will keep the personal information you have provided to us. At the end of the relevant period, we will dispose of your personal information in a secure manner.
